A ridge lies over Bass Strait as a broad low pressure trough extends over the State from the north. The trough will deepen further, extending over western waters on Thursday before moving east over Bass Strait on Friday. A new high pressure system starts to develop south of the bight later on Friday before moving slowly eastward over the weekend.
