Weather Situation

A large high pressure system south of Tasmania is cradling a low pressure system to the west of Victoria, resulting in an easterly airstream across Victorian coastal waters. The high is forecast to move over the southern Tasman Sea tonight as a trough associated with the low approaches western Bass Strait. The trough is forecast to slowly cross Bass Strait on Wednesday as another high crosses waters south of the Bight. The high is expected to be located near western Bass Strait by Thursday night before slowly crossing Bass Strait on Friday. Northerly winds are expected to develop on Saturday as the high moves over the Tasman Sea and a cold front approaches from the west.
