A strong high pressure system south of the Bight is directing a cool south to southwesterly airstream across Victoria. The high will extend a ridge across Victoria on Thursday as it moves slowly east, before crossing Bass Strait on Friday. Winds will tend warmer northerly on Saturday as the high moves over the Tasman Sea, with a weakening cold front forecast to approach western Victoria later on Sunday.
