A high pressure centre lies close to the southwest of Victoria, directing a west to southwesterly airstream over Tasmania. The high moves eastwards over the Tasman Sea as a weak cold front approaches from the west, crossing that state during Friday. A freshening northwesterly airstream then develops during Saturday as a strong cold front approaches from the west, crossing Tasmania during Sunday. A cold and gusty southwesterly airstream then follows, easing during Monday as a ridge approaches from the west.
