A weak ridge lies over the southern waters, while a tropical low moving well offshore of the Mackay coast is strengthening winds to its south. A trough will approach inland southeast Queensland from the west on Monday, increasing the northerly airflow over the southern waters, before a new ridge and fresh to strong southerly change extends across southern waters from Tuesday, behind the trough.
