Weather Situation

A tropical low lies in the Coral Sea, well offshore of the Mackay Coast, and is extending a trough to its northwest. The low is forecast to continue to southeastwards over the next few days, though the trough extending to the northwest of the low will remain over northern coastal waters over coming days, slowly drifting northwards. A new ridge will start to strengthen along the north Queensland coast from mid-week as a high moves into the Tasman Sea, with a southeasterly wind surge reaching the Mackay and Townsville coastal waters on Wednesday.
