Major Flood Warning for the Diamantina River and Moderate Flood Warning for the Western River

MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT BIRDSVILLE THURSDAY AFTERNOON WITH MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK

MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUING ALONG THE WESTERN RIVER AT WINTON

Moderate to heavy rainfall during last week has caused significant river level rises across the Diamantina River catchment. Major flooding is continuing along the Diamantina River around Diamantina Lakes and likely to be continuing at Monkira. Downstream river levels are rising at Birdsville, with minor flooding likely Thursday afternoon and further rises to the major flood level possible from early next week.

The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes

Major flooding is continuing along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 6.53 metres and steady, which is 4.43 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m).

Western River

Moderate flooding is continuing along the Western River.

Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes

Major flooding is estimated to be continuing along the Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes around Monkira.
