A ridge of high pressure extends across the state while a deep low pressure system lies over the southeastern Tasman Sea, bringing large and powerful waves to Sydney Waters. Winds should shift northerly during the weekend as a cold front and its associated trough enters the state's west, reaching the coastal waters on Monday before deepening to a low pressure system off the coast early new week. Then, fresh south to southeasterly winds will develop from late Monday through Tuesday before a weak ridge pushes it further offshore.
