Temperatures across greater Sydney have dropped significantly overnight due to an abrupt wind change — but the cool change won't last long.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), Sydney reached 30.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday night before falling 8C in 30 minutes.
The cool change came around 12:30am on Monday when a southerly buster swept through.
The change in apparent temperature was even greater, dropping from 30.2C to 19.5C by 1am.
Sydney sweltered through a heatwave over the weekend, with the BOM issuing a warning for the hot temperatures and strong winds.
A total fire ban was also in place for New South Wales.
On Saturday night, the city reportedly recorded its hottest March night weather in 149 years according to the BOM.
High temperatures continued through Sunday, with the western suburbs and the airport recording temperatures in the high 30s.
It was well above the average March maximum temperature of 25C.
BOM meteorologist Johnathan How told the ABC that Monday was a far more "comfortable night for sleeping " following the drop in temperature.
"As of this morning, it is actually 20 degrees cooler than it was yesterday so a much more comfortable and a milder day today," he said.
However, Mr How said the cool change would be fleeting.
"We are expecting to see a cooler day today but then from tomorrow we do see things warming up again," he said.
Mr How said temperatures would rise back to 30C by Thursday and will remain in the high 20s through the weekend.
"So It is still quite warm for this time of year, the average March maximum temperature is 25 degrees so we are sitting above that for most of the week," he said.
