Weather Situation

A firm ridge extends over north Queensland and will persist for the next few days. A trough in the far northern Coral Sea extends over the northern Peninsula and Torres Strait, and is forecast to move northeast while weakening. An embedded tropical low [997 hPa] lies in the trough in the northern Coral Sea well off the Peninsula east coast. It is expected to move slowly eastwards away from the Queensland coast, turning to the southeast and then south this week, with further development of this system likely.
